Subordinate, juvenile and pomona grange records, 1873-2003.

The collection contains records of individual subordinate, juvenile and pomona chapters of granges from many communities in Maine. Records are arranged alphabetically by name of grange. They typically consist of secretary's minutes and cash books, roll books containing lists of members, treasurer's financial records and dues account books listing dues paid by members. Also included are journals of proceedings of the annual sessions of the Maine State Grange, 1874-1917.

Founded 1874 to give Maine farmers a greater voice in society, particularly in political matters; by 1907 there were 419 granges in the state with over 55,000 members. In addition to political activities, the grange offered discounted insurance programs, was active in a variety of charitable endeavors, and supported rural free delivery, prohibition, and equality for women members.
